RECOMMENDATION
That the Board provide financial assistance in support of the “It’s Cool to Know Your Way in a
Relationship” Camp in Hinton during the 2017-2018 School year in the amount of $ 4000.00.
REPORT
Background:
The “It’s Cool Camp” is for all grade 8 students. The camp utilizes high school students to
facilitate numerous breakout sessions, as well as large group presentations, throughout the day
that focus attention on the multiple aspects of relationships. The program involves numerous
agencies and stakeholders within the community and provides opportunity to create lasting
partnerships.
Context to the Recommendation:
Financial support to this program across the division is as follows:
2012-2013

Conclusion:
The support from the Board to assist in presenting this year’s camp would be greatly

“It’s Cool” funding request
OVERVIEW
The “It’s Cool Camp” is for all Harry Collinge and TLC grade 8 students and is hosted off campus.
The camp utilizes both community members and high school students to facilitate numerous
breakout sessions, as well as large group presentations, throughout the day that focus attention
on the multiple aspects of relationships. The program involves numerous agencies and
stakeholders from within the Hinton community and provides opportunity to create lasting
partnerships.
This will be the third year Harry Collinge High School School has offered the camp. The
response and feedback from students last year was very positive.
GOALS
1. To Provide skills and strategies to safely navigate relationships.
2. To Provide accurate information on what consent is and what it isn’t.
3. To Provide information on STI and HIV as well as prevention.
4. To Provide information on sexual diversity.
REQUEST
In order to run the program in the 2017/2018 school year we would like to ask for the Board’s
support of $4000 to cover the cost of the venue, bus, food and travel for out of town presenters.
