Grande Cache Community High School Modernization

That the Board receive a report on the Grande Cache Community High School modernization,
Exterior work is mostly completed with the construction area now cleaned up and new sod
installed over the summer. Most deficiencies are expected to be completed by the end of
Context of the Recommendation:
January 31, 2014, the Province of Alberta announced modernization of the Grande Cache
community High School. The condition of the building, enrolment projections, utilization rates
and program delivery as well as health and safety concerns were a few of the factors in the
decision for the modernization. Grande Cache Community High School was constructed in
1969 and is due for a modernization to meet the guidelines of barrier free access for students,
and to increase its capacity for program delivery into the future.
On May 7, 2014, the Board appointed The Workun Garrick Partnership Architecture & Interior
Design Inc. as the architects for the Grande Cache Community High School modernization
On December 3, 2014, the Board approved the plans, in principle, for the Grande Cache
Community High School Modernization.
On January 21, 2015, Ministerial approval was received for an additional $300,000 from the
province and $1,500,000 from Grande Yellowhead Public School Division’s undesignated funds
toward the modernization of Grande Cache Community High bringing the total approved budget
for construction to $16,631,543.
September 9, 2015, the Board of Trustees approved the low tender of Monteith Building Group.
That the Board of Trustees receive an update on the progress to the modernization of Grande
Cache Community High School.
